Parramatta mums deliver verdict on budget childcare changes

Reporter Susan McDonald spoke to mothers in the Parramatta suburb of Dundas:

Zoe Waters-Hooson takes a two-year-old Ophelia along on Tuesdays, and as a stay-at-home mum she is a budget “loser”.

“We are losing out there in the budget because there’s not the money and support for single-income families anymore, they’re taking that money away,” she said.

Ms Waters-Hooson said it sent a message that family life was “not that important”.

“That mothers or stay-at-home parents don’t have a particularly important role anymore,” she said.

“That parents should be both at work and children should be focused on within child care rather than in the family environment.”
