Parents are telling childcare providers they want to work more but can’t afford the extra days of care because they’re hitting the ceiling on government subsidies.

The overhaul of the system will scrap the $7500 annual cap for families earning less than $185,000 and lift it to $10,000 for richer parents.

The change is expected to mean 90,000 families who would normally hit the cap will no longer run out of childcare fee subsidies.
